Chamber Coalition Takes on Transportation
Transportation improvement projects continue to move forward throughout Orange County and will create more jobs.
Transportation continues to be a top issue for businesses and residents throughout the Orange County area. In an effort to make this a top priority for the region the Chamber has formed the “Coalition for Transportation Solutions.”
The Chamber’s “Coalition for Transportation Solutions” (CTS) has unveiled an extensive program of work for the 2010 year. The Coalition, chaired by George Caravalho, represents the business interest in improving the economic vitality of southern Orange County through effective transportation solutions.
The goal of CTS is to protect the economic vitality of our local businesses and communities from negative congestion impacts through timely construction of needed transportation improvements.
The mission of the Coalition is to represent our business membership by being involved, providing information and public education, and advocating their interests with respect to regional and local traffic issues.
This action is facilitated through engagement and collaboration with state, county, and local government; local community organizations; and other stakeholders interested in the implementation of real traffic solutions.
The CTS mobilizes the business community and public toward solutions that benefit the South County region.
The Coalition supports the following improvements:
- Make improvements to I-5 at interchanges and provide for the addition of carpool lanes both north and south to the San Diego County line.
- Complete La Pata and consider extending it to Cristianitos Rd.
- Make improvements to major arterial streets between Hwy. 241 and I-5.
- Improve Ortega Hwy.
- Upgrade rail and bus services.
The CTS Action Plan for the upcoming month:
- Meeting with OCTA, Kia Mortazavi regarding Orange County projects.
- Meeting with TCA Chief Executive Officer, Tom Margo in respect to the Toll Roads.
- Meeting with City of Laguna Beach City Manager to explore their experiences in dealing with traffic congestion.
- Meeting with local elected officials to gather input on local transportation project implementation.
- Get South County Chambers and Cities actively involved.
- Provide public education of this plan at various meetings in South County, e.g. service clubs, environmental groups, and the media.
The Chamber will publish status reports in respect to each of the Coalitions supported improvements. If you would like to join the CTS call the Chamber office and we will add you to the group.
Together we’re Better!
